I really love cloth diapering. Sometime during my pregnancy with my daughter (now 4 months old) I start doing research on it here and there. I didn’t really expect to do it, and I thought that if I ever did do it there wouldn’t be any way I’d chose anything other than All-In-Ones or Pocket diapers. And yet…here I am…chosing and using prefolds and covers and loving it!
I know, it sounds weird. What could be so cool about using cloth diapers? Isn’t it gross/old/backward/hard? But it really isn’t.
It is convenient. Let’s face it…I’m doing a ton of laundry every week anyway. I’ve got 2 kids and a hubby (and myself of course), and we need lots of things washed all the time. I’m doing non-diaper laundry daily. A few loads of diapers a week is nothing. I’m home most of the time anyway. And I’ve always, always got diapers on hand.
I love that it saves $. Who likes to spend tons of cash on diapers that just get thrown away a few hours (or sometimes a few minutes!) after they get put on? Not me. By chosing prefolds and covers I’m saving a small fortune, and I’ve got enough that I don’t have to spend any more money on dipes until my little girl is potty trained if I don’t want to.
Love that I’m not contributing many diapers to the landfill. Disposable diapers don’t break down for hundreds of years. Less plastic = good in my book.
Comfy and cozy for baby. This is one of the big reasons for me. Natural fibers, not full of chemicals (no super absorbing gels here!!), more ventilation and comfort for my little one, and less rashes.
Maybe you think I’m crazy for cloth diapering or crazy for writing a blog post about it, but it really has come a long way from the old-school days (no toilet dunking or pins required). I think if more people realized how easy, convenient, not-any-grosser-than-disposables it is they might consider doing it too!
