I’ve heard the “micro-managing” term several times recently regarding parenting and since it came to my email inbox I’m gonna go ahead and say how I feel about the whole thing…
I agree in theory - kids learn best when they are free to manage themselves (with safe boundaries set in place) and handle their own squabbles with other children within reason.
In reality - you can’t win either way. Parents are often judged very harshly by others. If your kid throws a fit then you must not be disciplining him correctly. Or, my kid would never do [insert whatever here]. Parents are judged if they don’t watch their kid’s every move and they are judged if they micro-manage. Everybody has an opinion about everything you do.
Boo.
I try to do my best and just not worry about the rest.
